Lisa Doyle is Absolutely Fine Pitch: Attitude

Hi Cliff,

Mo Fanning is a gay novelist whose new romcom, Lisa Doyle is Absolutely Fine, comes out on 18 June. The premise: a woman invents a fake fiancée after one too many wines at a family gathering, then has to keep the lie going with the help of her GBFF flatmate.

It’s warm, sharp and funny in the Marian Keyes / Mhairi McFarlane vein, but written by a gay man who’s spent years watching straight romcom tropes from the outside. Five novels in, Mo was the Page Turner 2025 Best LGBTQ Winner, has a piece running in The Bookseller’s LGBTQ+ June Edition, and is speaking at Queer the Shelves in Nottingham on 27 June.

Happy to offer: interview, first-person essay, or a piece on what it’s like writing mainstream romcom as a queer author in the middle of the genre’s biggest ever boom (£69m in the UK last year, a record).

Flexible on format and timing. Let me know if any of that works.

Best,
